Peningen

Peningen (/peningen/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Iēājùglan County, Tuhate Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Peningen is derived from the Sylvin language, as Peningen was founded by Kèsê Deyes, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Peningen has a yearly average temperature of 21°C (69°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 29°C (84°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 13°C (55°F). Peningen receives an average of 271 cm/y (106 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Peningen covers an area of nearly 4 km² (1 mi²), and an average elevation of 2510 m (8234 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Peningen was founded durring the late 13th century in summer of the year 1164, by Kèsê Deyes. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Peningen was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Peningen is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Peningen is buildings are arranged arround a network of crampt baked earthen streets which form a diamond shaped grid, where each diamond verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller diamond has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town posesses a mighty albit amaturly crafted stone wall. It was built using querried stone blocks and posesses all of the standard defencive features, including a few watch towers. While it would last against a siege, the wall's outdated and simplistic construction method percludes the possability of Peningen weathering a full scale bombardment durring a siege. Peningen's budget focused millitary grade defenses has sufferd soem light damage, reducing its function a little in some spots, but could almsot certainly preform as expected... Though some of the worse spots could lead to the loss of defenders lives if attackers identified the weaknesses ahead of time.

The first thing you notice about Peningen is the large sign at the entrance welcoming you to their humble town. Children come up to you and say hi, some asking if you’ve fought any big monsters, and others just zipping away after their hello. The adults are much the same. By the time you’ve made it a significant way into the town you’ve been invited to a tavern for a pint to drink in exchange for news of the world. You’ve also had no less than three older women give you a sweetroll and direct your attention to their still unmarried children. It would be creepy if it wasn't so sincere.

Peningen has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Peningen has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Peningen's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Peningen possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. These lights provide nighttime illumination to most city streets.

Peningen has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Peningen has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

While Peningen has a public leader, the real authority is hidden from outsiders. This ruler may draw their authority from rationales unacceptable to outsiders, they may have cowed the public authority into obedience, or they may have a mutually beneficial private arrangement with the official ruler.

Peningen's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is based upon new and innovative technologies of construction and the idea that form should follow function. It was an embrace of minimalism and a rejection of ornament. The style became characterized by an emphasis on volume, asymmetrical compositions, and minimal ornamentation..

Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is long in Peningen.

The Dallo near Peningen are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Peningen's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves creating small tokens to channel Mysticism energies of tier 3 via mimery.

Economy
